UFO Caught On Video In Cordova

“I wish I had never seen the thing. I’ve been ridiculed for it, and accused of faking the footage, but it was there and I saw it. It was frightening to find out that they, ufo’s, really exist. Even though nobody
believes me, I have seen it with my own eyes and even caught it on my cam phone.”  That’s what Mark, a 58 year old British citizen, living in Cebu had to say about the UFO that he captured on video, at Bangnanan floating café, in Cordova, on December 17 of 2009.

Mactan.com tracked down the British national by waiting at the café almost every evening between 5 and 7 pm, since we first heard of the incident in early January. This was the time frame which we had been informed that Mark usually visited the Café. Our perseverance paid off and one evening in mid February of 2010, the manager gave us the nod that Mark had arrived.

We were anxious to talk to Mark, (last name withheld at his request, as was any photo of him) since we had been told by others that he had caught the event on video. We approached him as he sipped buko juice from a coconut shell.  At first he denied that he knew what we were talking about when we asked him about the incident.  But after assurances that we believed him, due to the fact that we had talked to 9 locals who had witnessed the event with him on December 17, he opened up.

“I would guess that at least 20 of us saw us the thing,
clear as day.  It was about 5:30 in the evening. A kid started yelling, Look! Look!  And we all looked. It was hovering right over there by that island,Mark said…pointing.  "I was shocked. Frightened.
Lights were flashing from the bottom of it while it hovered over the island, but when it started to move the lights went off. It flew slowly at first, and getting faster, and suddenly it vanished in the blink of an eye. Before it got away, I finally thought to record it on my phone cam, I wish I had been thinking more clearly, I could have gotten three times as much footage, but I was shocked and didn’t think of it until a minute or so had gone by.” Mark seemed clearly excited and still rattled by the sighting. “Someday, everybody will know I told the truth.”

Mark still had the footage on his cel phone, and allowed us to load it on our laptop.

Mouse-over the photo, to see Mark’s footage.  Please contact Mactan.com if you also witnessed this event, or any other UFO event in the Mactan area, since sightings in the Philippines are becoming more and more common. Email us at MisoHappy@Rocketmail.com.

A Scooter
A Pumpboat And
A Bird Sanctuary
Got plans for tomorrow?  I have a suggestion: Pack some chicken and a baguette, a bottle of chilled wine, rent a motorbike, grab your best girl and ferry off on a pumpboat to Olango Island.  Olango is a bird sanctuary, and a sight well worth seeing, and it's only about a 20 minute pump boat ride from Mactan. What a great way to spend a day, and treat yourself to a picnic lunch.

OlangoIsland is a fishing village, virtually flat, and it is surrounded by warm seas and partly sheltered

from monsoons and strong trade winds. And these conditions are a magnet for birds.

It’s one of the seven best-known flyways in the world for migrating birds. Its main attraction is its 920-hectare Olango Island Wildlife Sanctuary, a haven for migratory birds from Siberia, Northern China and Japan. Birds flock to the island seeking refuge from the winter climate of other countries. The sanctuary supports the largest concentration of migratory birds found in the Philippines.

There are 97 species of birds on Olango, 48 of which are migratory species, while the rest are resident birds of the island.

It’s a sleepy little island, and most of the roads are paved. .  Perfect for a scooter. You can rent a scooter at Cadillac Café and they’ll show you how to get to the Olango ferry pumpboat. Guys at the pumpboat will load and unload your bike for you. And pumpboats launch every hour from morning till 5pm. The pumpboat ride itself is an adventure. Have fun!

Lechon.Better Known To Westerners as Barbecue

Lechon Baboy, Lechon Manok, and Lechon Baka.

Baboy is pig, Manok is Chicken and Baka is beef.  Baka is my favorite, and much harder to find.

Lechon (Lee Chon) comes from the Spanish word for milk, Leche, because it describes a suckling pig, a pig still feeding on mother’s milk.

But here in thePhilippines they have come to call all whole roasted meats as lechon.  Go figure. But these local folks are really good at it.

Beef. My personal favorite is Baka. Since I’m from Texas, I’m a beef eater. And I have to say that not much good beef is found here in Cebu. Beef here is ALWAYS below par, and I don't care who tells you, "you can buy good beef at blah blah blah..." No way. These are just folks who never had a good piece of Texas Cow.

Baka is the only piece of beef in these parts that can break that rule.  It can be tender and juicy, if you find a cook that knows how to do it right. And there's a few of 'em here. The secret is good piece of meat, the perfect fire, and turning that spit just right. But let me warn you, the BBQ sauce they put on Baka isn’t like any BBQ sauce you’ve had before.  But, damn, it’s good!

Chicken, Manok, Lot’s of good manok on Mactan Island.  But the most consistently good is Henry’s, in Basak Market.  Always freshly cooked, and spiced just right. Make sure you’re at Henry’s, since there’s a lot of chicken stands in Basak Market.  This one say’s HENRY right on the BBQ pit.  Henry has a lot of stands throughout Cebu.  I’ve eaten at most of them and they’re always good.  I personally don’t like mine chopped.  Oh…. If you’re a newcomer, the chicken joints will usually ask you if you want it chopped. And they do mean chopped. Chopped in random pieces with a meat cleaver. I don’t like mine chopped.  Do you? Oh…one more thing… I have never gotten a bad chicken at Henry’s. And I can’t say that about the other places I’ve bought chicken.

Pig.
Everybody has an opinion about the best Baboy.

I’m sure they mean well, no matter how many times I’ve been steered wrong. But one thing for sure, you just can’t beat BEN’S.  I don’t know how many locations they have. Ben’s has a kiosk inside White Gold over close to SM but I most often get mine on Mactan, at the kiosk inside Save More at Marina Mall. Everybody will tell you a different place to go for lechon baboy, and you will never change anybody’s mind on the matter. But they’re wrong. Ben’s is best. And if you don’t believe me, ask my best friend.
